The Thabo Bester Zimbabwean Mystery: Dr Nandipha Bought A R1.35 Million Car On Credit And Dumped It In Zimbabwe

The story of one of the biggest criminal escapes in South Africa keeps getting wilder.

Adding to the already shocking revelations, new bits of information suggest that convicted rapist and murderer Thabo Bester and Dr Nandipha Magudumana could have fled to Zimbabwe.

The two criminal lovebirds are on the run after GroundUp recently yanked their cover. Thabo Bester fled from jail after faking his death in May 2022 and stayed with celebrity doctor Nandipha, living luxuriously and renting five lavish mansions in Johannesburg. But what happened before the rich life?

Let’s take you back.

IOL reported that Thabo Bester’s Zimbabwean jail smugglers attempted to sneak him into the neighbouring country after the elaborately planned Mangaung Maximum Prison break.

The group exchanged gunshots with soldiers at the Beitbridge Border Post and shook them off. After the gunfight, Bester and crew sprinted into Zimbabwe on foot, with one injured.

They laid low in the neighbouring country and planned on returning to South Africa, where he eventually reunited with the once-loved socialite Dr Nandipha. And new information now points out that Zimbabwe could be the fugitives’ new hideout.

The Citizen accessed videos that reveal how the innocent-looking Dr Nandipha abandoned a new car in Zimbabwe on 17 January.

In the two-month-old video, Dr Nandipha admits to private investigators from the car dealership that she reneged on repaying the debt. She bought the car in 2022 for R1.35 million, and the private investigator traced the Mercedes-Benz AMG E63 to Zimbabwe.

She revealed that a partner was responsible for repaying the car but refused to mention him when asked if it was her husband. That time, Thabo Bester’s cover was still intact.

The dealership is said to possess videos which show Dr Nandipha crossing Beitbridge Border Post into Zimbabwe.
Border officials became suspicious after noticing the Merc had false Zimbabwean number plates. Dr Nandipha then shook off the border officials and ran on foot back into South Africa.

Officials impounded the vehicle, saying it would only be released after a payment of US$80 000 (R1.4 million).

Could this obsession with Zimbabwe by Thabo Bester and Dr Nandipha provide clues for their current whereabouts, or it’s just another plan to throw off the police? Time will tell.-iharare
