Gweru Police Officer Commits Suicide After Losing Borrowed Money Playing Kandege
Constable Claude Jele allegedly took his own life after losing borrowed money playing aviator online game known as kandege.
Sources who spoke to H-Metro said Constable Claude Jele had lost US$3000, which he had borrowed, by the time he took his life. The source said the police officer was unable to pay back the money he lost and decided that taking his own life was the only way out.
“Officer vakakwereta mari ikanyudzwa nekandege. Zvavaremera kudzosa uye kuwana counseling kwakuzvitorera upenyu,” said the source.
Police Officer’s Final Words Revealed
Shortly after writing a suicide note, Jele ingested an unidentified poison. However, in his note, he did not directly mention his debt or gambling losses.
“Having survived all these 38 years, I have reached a point where I feel like it’s all the same being on this earth or leaving. So, please do not accuse anyone or anything, it’s my personal decision to end my life this way; reads part of the suicidal note.
Jele said his death would inflict severe pain, and he asked for forgiveness from his family, urging people to avoid making false allegations against his wife. He said his suicide was because he failed in life.
“I know you will be hurt, but I do not see a reason to keep living. I have failed,” he wrote in Shona before adding, “Ganizani and Keisha, it will hurt you, but please forgive me. Grow up well, I have gone ahead.”
Another Tragic Incident Haunts Zimbabwe
In an unrelated incident, Jele’s death came just days after another Zimbabwean man, Charles Chindundundu, posted a chilling farewell video before taking his own life.
In his final video, Chindundundu said:
“Sometimes life is just like this. We make decisions that seem right to us. Some people will be hurt, but they will heal.”
He later updated his WhatsApp status with a haunting final message:
“Mission completed. Best decision ever. Soul leaving.”-iharare
