Zimbabwean former international cricketer and captain, Brendan Taylor has sent social media into disarray after he confessed to snorting cocaine and receiving a bribe for match-fixing.
Taking to Twitter, Brendan Taylor opened up about how he was approached and almost tricked by spot-fixers into committing international match-fixing.
Brendan Taylor revealed that an Indian businessman approached him to fly down to India in order to discuss some sponsorships and potential T20 competition in Zimbabwe.
He claims, he was offered $15,000 to do so. Whilst in India, Brendan Taylor admitted that he was lured into taking cocaine by the Indian businessman and his colleagues.
“We had drinks and during the course of the evening they openly offered me cocaine, which they themselves engaged in, and I foolishly took the bait. I’ve gone over it a million times since and still feel sick to my stomach reliving that nigh and how they played me,” he wrote.
Brendan Taylor claims the businessman recorded a video and tried using it to blackmail him into match-fixing.
“The following morning, the same men stormed into my hotel room and showed me a video taken of me the night before doing cocaine and told me if I did not spot fix an international matches for me, the video would be released to the public.
He said he was cornered and given $15,000 as deposit to fix matches with the promise that he would be given $20,000 later. Brendan Taylor claims that he did not engage in spot-fixing and instead reported to the ICC, which, according to his statement, is set to hand him a multi-year ban from the sport.
