“Don’t Think Of Us Only When We Are Dead” – Artists Reprimand Companies For Fighting To Bury Clive Chigubu
Zimbabwean companies have gained unwanted notoriety for acting charitable whenever a local celebrity dies.
This has raised the ire of local artists, as corporates pulled this stunt last week.
Artists have reprimanded local corporates who fought to bury the late comedian Clive Chigubu, saying they should desist from only showing up when they are dead. The comedian was buried yesterday in Bulawayo.
Actor and poet Tendai Maduwa was scathing at Chigubu’s funeral
Allow me to set some few things straight. We have seen corporates over the years. We don’t want you in our lives when we are dead as artists. We want you in our lives when we still live. Pay us our dues. Give us our money so that we’ll be able to take care of ourselves. Not to wait for us to die so that you come and brand your companies at our funerals.
We struggle with hospital bills and you make us social curses where we have to beg so that we live. I saw Nicolas Moyo of the National Arts Council. I once said it, do not come into our lives when we are dead. We want you when we are alive.

Tragic seeing all the corporates fighting to provide buses, tents and coffin for Clive ls funeral so they can put up tear drops and banners yet he struggled with hospital bills?

Clive Chigubu died last week after a short battle with cancer. Three days before his untimely death, Chigubu told Sunday News that he was now unable to eat, talk and walk, and he appealed for help to cover his medical bills, which were becoming burdensome.
