Ambassador Jobst von Kirchmann Discusses Gender Equality Initiatives in Film
Speaking during an interview, Jobst von Kirchmann, the Ambassador of the European Union to Zimbabwe, highlighted that this year’s theme, “Beyond Boundaries: Empowering Women Through Film,” reflects the ongoing collaboration between the EU and Zimbabwe on gender equality and women’s empowerment.
“The European Union and Zimbabwe are working together for a couple of years now on the topic of gender equality and women empowerment.
The Film Festival should live up to that topic. That’s why we decided it should be about women from A to Z. From the ones organizing it, to the actors, to the films to the filmmakers as special focus is on women.”

Ambassador von Kirchmann Advocates for Permanent Expansion of the EU Film Festival
Speaking on the expansion of the EU Film Festival from Harare to other cities in Zimbabwe, Ambassador Jobst von Kirchmann expressed his hope that this growth would become a permanent feature of the festival. He emphasized that having an EU Film Festival only in Harare is insufficient.
“l believe having an EU film festival only in Harare is too little. Bulawayo is already good. It should not be a one-off. But it should be something we do every year. And we should go out, around the country there are so many fantastic places, and they don’t have a film festival. So we hope in the coming years that we are not only repeating what we do this year but we can, even more, enlarge it and have other locations as well.”-harare
