Popular contemporary musicians ExQ and Nutty O have landed themselves in hot water with the authorities after they allegedly tendered fake Covid-19 certificates at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport. The two musicians will spend the weekend behind bars after the magistrate deferred their bail hearing to Monday.
ExQ, real name Enock Munhenga and Nutty O, real name Carrington Simbarashe Chiwadzwa, allegedly committed the offence earlier this month when they returned to the country from South Africa. They are alleged to have tendered fake Covid-19 certificates at RGM International Airport.
The two musicians appeared at the Harare Magistrates’ Court today facing allegations of fraud. ExQ and Nutty O were remanded in custody to Monday after the presiding magistrate postponed their bail hearing to Monday. The two former members of the Military Touch Movement (MTM) will have to brave the cold while behind bars over the weekend.
This is not the first time that entertainers have found themselves in trouble with the law over violations of Covid-19 protocols.
Earlier this year, Zimdancehall superproducers DJ Fantan and Levels spent 2 weeks behind bars after they pleaded guilty to breaching Covid-19 regulations.
The Chillspot Records founders landed themselves in trouble with the law when they organised a New Year bash which was attended by thousands of people in Harare’s Mbare suburb.
DJ Fantan, real name Arnold Kamudyariwa (33), and Levels, real name Tafadzwa Kadzimwe (31) together with Simbarashe “Dhama” Chanachimwe (27) were sentenced to an effective 6 months in prison after they pleaded guilty to the charges. The trio spent 2 weeks in jail before the High Court granted them bail pending an appeal against sentence.
