Former Ajax Cape Town Midfielder’s Shocking Scam: Archford Gutu Faces Fraud Charges Amidst Soccer Academy Deception
Former Ajax Cape Town midfielder Archford Gutu finds himself in hot water, facing fraud charges for allegedly deceiving a guardian who entrusted him with 17 players during a trip to Dubai.
Gutu, known for his stints with Harare football rivals Dynamos and CAPS United, was reported to the police by Nyaradzai Makove. Makove claims that Gutu solicited a hefty sum of US$10,000 in exchange for a 40 percent stake in his AGFA Soccer Academy, which aimed to nurture talented young players. Falling victim to Gutu’s scheme, Makove handed over the money at an office located in Chisipite Shopping Centre back in March.
To her dismay, Makove later discovered that Gutu was not the owner of the said academy, making it impossible for her to enforce their agreement. Realizing she had been scammed, Makove promptly approached the police to report the incident.
Archford Gutu Accused Of Fraud And Abandoning Kids In Dubai
H-Metro reached out to Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, who confirmed the case and assured that investigations were underway.
Disturbingly, Gutu and his wife, Mona Dube, reportedly squandered the funds received from parents and guardians, leaving eight players stranded. It has been revealed that Gutu and Dube neglected the players, whose permits have expired, and they are now being evicted from the hotels they were accommodated in. To cover the resulting debts, parents and guardians have been asked to contribute additional funds.
Inspector Chakanza provided further details, stating,
“Sometime in February 2023, the complainant met accused person at Chisipiti shops and gave him US$10 000. The suspect promised the complainant a 40 percent share in his soccer academy. In March, the accused person left for Dubai with a group of soccer players. Complainant made efforts to locate the accused, but could not find him and she discovered that he has no soccer academy,” said Insp Chakanza.
As of now, Archford Gutu has neither confirmed nor denied these allegations.-iharare
