Mbare El Chapo: Levels And DJ Fantan’s “Drug Dealing” Associate Dhama On The Run
Mystery remains as to the whereabouts of Dhama, who is a close associate of prominent Zimdancehall producers DJ Fantan and Levels.
Dhama is said to have eluded the long arm of the law and gone into hiding after the police launched a nationwide crackdown on drug peddlers. The campaign dubbed “No to dangerous drugs and illicit substances: See something, say something” has the full support of the Government.
Dhama, real name Simbarashe Chanachimwe, according to unconfirmed reports, is wanted for questioning over his alleged drug dealing activities.
Permanent secretary for the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Nick Mangwana, confirmed on Tuesday that Dhama was wanted by police. He also confirmed that Dhama was on the run after getting word that he is wanted by the police for his alleged involvement in the dealing and trafficking of illicit and banned substances.
After being asked if Dhama had been arrested, Nick Mangwana responded:
I hear he can’t be located. Possibly on the run.
Dhama captured the attention of the public in 2020 for being the financial muscle behind a crossover gig at Mbare’s Matapi Flats on New Year’s eve while lockdown protocols were in place. He was arrested together with Chillspot Records duo of DJ Fantan and DJ Levels.
The trio were convicted after their own plea of guilt and sentenced to one year behind bars before six months were set aside. Harare provincial magistrate Mrs Vongai Guwuriro set aside six months for three years on the condition that they would not commit a similar offence within that period.
They were later released on $10 000 bail each, pending an appeal by High Court judge Justice Davison Foroma. The trio had spent just a fortnight behind bars.
Upon their release, DJ Fantan and Levels issued a public apology expressing their profound regret for breaching Covid-19 regulations.
