Millionaire No More? President Mnangagwa’s Ex-Advisor Shingi Munyeza Fails To Repay ‘Measly’ US$100K Loan

Shingi Munyeza, a former advisor to President Emmerson Mnangagwa, and his wife Wilma are facing a lawsuit for failing to pay back a loan.

Despite being often listed among Zimbabwe’s wealthiest individuals, Munyeza has failed to pay back a sum of US$100,000.

The couple is being sued by Marjorie Mutemererwa, a former public relations manager of Seed Co. Ltd, who is seeking the return of her US$85,000 loan, plus US$15,000 in interest.

According to court papers filed at the High Court, Munyeza called Mutemererwa on 21 January this year asking for a loan. The following day, accompanied by his wife, Shingi Munyeza visited Mutemererwa at her Borrowdale residence to finalise the deal.

On the following day after the Munyezas’ visit, Mutemererwa transferred $85,000 into their Botswana account as per their agreement.

Following Munyeza’s visit, Mutemererwa fulfilled their agreement by transferring $85,000 into the Munyezas’ Botswana account the next day.

Mutemererwa had loaned the money to the Munyezas with the understanding that it would be repaid by the 31st of the same month. However, the Munyezas did not keep their end of the agreement.

On 27 February, Munyeza assured Mutemererwa that he would repay the money the next day, but unfortunately, he did not follow through with his promise.

Mutemererwa, having grown tired of Munyeza’s unkept promises, ultimately reported him to the police. Munyeza was apprehended on March 3rd and presented in court the following day.

Currently, the case has been elevated to the High Court Civil Division, where both Munyeza and his spouse are scheduled to appear today.

Although news reports last month suggested that Munyeza was arrested, he denied the allegations, maintaining that the police only interviewed him since the matter is civil and not criminal.

Despite acknowledging the debt and promising to repay Mutemererwa, Munyeza’s promises have lost credibility as she no longer believes him.-iharare
