THE fourth edition of the Mr Pace Post Insurance marathon is set to be held at Alex Sports Club for the first time, following a venue change from the traditional home, National Sports Stadium ‘B’ Arena, which is undergoing renovations.

The Mr Pace Post Insurance marathon has grown to become one of the biggest races in the country in terms of size and prize money, with at least 500 participants expected to take part in this year’s edition.

The experienced duo of Moses Tarakinyu and World Championships-bound Tendai Zimuto are also set to take part in this year’s edition of the event, with defending champions for the men’s and women’s classes, respectively, Wayne Kabondo and Fortunate Chidzivo, having confirmed their participation.

Another top female marathon runner from Mr Pace Athletics Club, Mirriam Sibanda, will also be challenging for the top accolade. Zimpost representative Lovemore Masimba expressed his excitement at staging the event.

 “We are thrilled to be hosting this event again. We have seen a tremendous improvement in entries, with the numbers up from around 200 last year to more than 400 so far. We expect more entries in the lead up to the race, which we are hoping will be the most competitive yet,” said Masimba.

“We are glad that the sponsors have raised the bar again this year, with the winners of the main 21km races getting US$700 each. Notably, all the top five finishers in the men’s and women’s 21km races will get cash prizes,” Makaza said.

“We are also glad that the race is getting bigger and better each year, with international athletes such as Isaac Langat from Kenya taking part, and going forward, we are looking forward to having more of them taking part in future.”

Gruma managing director Muvengwa Marumahoko expressed satisfaction with the continued growth of the event.

“This event has been growing in leaps and bounds over the years, and we are glad that this trend is continuing for this year’s edition.

“We are excited about the fact that this event is not only catering for runners, but also the fitness-loving members of the community through the aerobics and Zumba sessions that will take place on the sidelines of the marathon,” said Marumahoko.

Apart from the 21km races, participants will also be able to take part in the 10km, 5km and 1km races in line with the organisers’ bid to cater for all levels of runners.-iharare
