The 98th edition of the Comrades Marathon, which is dubbed The Ultimate Human Race, is scheduled to take place in Pietermaritzburg and Durban on June 8.
FITNESS enthusiast Kudzai Pasipanodya is looking to complete the race in under nine hours when he takes part in his fourth Comrades Marathon this Sunday.
Pasipanodya, who is the brains behind the Musabvunda fitness and lifestyle brand, has been able to finish the race within the stipulated times since making his debut at the gruelling event in 2022.
The 98th edition of the Comrades Marathon, which is dubbed The Ultimate Human Race, is scheduled to take place in Pietermaritzburg and Durban on June 8.
At least 22 677 athletes are expected to take part in the annual event run over 98km and 80km.
“With the kind of preparations I have done, I am looking at finishing the race in nine hours. I am looking at setting my personal best like I did at the Dubai Marathon and the Two Oceans Marathon,” he said.
“We are excited also as Musabvunda because we preach resilience. We tell athletes not to fear and we preach good health as we know that a healthy nation is a productive nation.
“We encourage everyone to rally behind the Zimbabwean runners at this year’s Comrades Marathon,” Pasipanodya said.
Pasipanodya will be accompanied by his Musabvunda fitness and lifestyle teammates Nyasha Marira, Christopher Tavaziva and Komborero Mwenyendiyani at the ultra marathon competition.
Last month, Pasipanodya saw the successful staging of the third edition of the Musabvunda Half Marathon and Family Fun Day with over 3 000 participants taking part at Blakiston Primary School in Harare.
Won by seasoned athletes Rudo Mhonderwa and Tatenda Hove, the half marathon was used as an event to prepare for the Comrades Marathon.
The Comrades Marathon has been won three times by legendary Zimbabwean long-distance runner Stephen Muzhingo who triumphed in 2009, 2010 and 2011. newsda
