Some people called out Jam Tree Restaurant for its alleged efforts to sweep the racism allegations under the rug. Others said the photo op was a textbook example of how not to handle allegations of racism.

To some, Jam Tree took advantage of the victim to do some damage control and to market itself at the same time. Some even mocked the photo-op saying that it had finally ended the scourge of racism in the country.

Many also remarked at the body language of the two men who appeared in the photos. According to many who commented, the two men are clearly awkward and ill at ease in the photos.

Below are some of the reactions of Zimbabweans on social media,

I would never allow myself to take a picture for damage control . That hug 😂😂ahh. My pride would never let me https://t.co/BHk1T3rdtT

That body language in the second frame confirms so many things for me. Nothing resolved there

This is nauseating…racists don’t see or respect the humanity of black people & placate with these kumbaya empty gestures. Shame on this black man for agreeing to be used as a marketing gimmick & damage control in this “hug a racist” photoshoot 🤮😡 https://t.co/rq5ma8IfML

If the roles were reversed that caucasian man would never make a trip to a black owned business to extend an olive branch. My people need to learn that it’s not our responsibility to always “keep the peace”. Have some dignity. https://t.co/LAdI7iREbr

…but why did our mwana wevhu agree to this?

What did they talk about?

Where’s the footage?

How were these differences ‘worked out’?

What happens now?

I have so many questions… https://t.co/1Rf1O4ruS4
