TELONE coach Tendai Chikuni hinted at stepping down from his post after his team lost 2-0 to Chegutu Pirates in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match at Bata Stadium yesterday.

Gift Mwinga and Cleopas Dube were on target for Chegutu Pirates as they recorded their third win of the season.

For TelOne, this was their fourth defeat of the season, as they continue to drop points to slide into the relegation zone.

And Chikuni was first to admit that his fate is no longer in his hands following the Wi-FI Boys’ poor run.

Chikuni said: “The challenge we are having is to concede silly goals. In the nature of job, there is always pressure.

“You either have to step down or you have to look at other aspects, a lot of aspects. You have to evaluate yourself and say, how can I protect myself?

“But definitely, we have to go back to the drawing board and we hope that some of our players will do better.”

TelOne had a slow start to the match and were punished as early as the fifth minute when Matripples Muleya misjudged Gift Mwinga’s free-kick that looked hapless.

Besides that goal, there was nothing to write home about the match as TelOne failed to produce any meaningful effort to claw back into the match while Cheguti sat in their own half to protect the slender lead.

TelOne returned from the break with confidence in search of an equaliser, but Chegutu Pirates kept their calm looking to capitalise on counter attacks.

Chegutu Pirates deservedly doubled their scores after 68 minutes through Cleopas Dube, who converted from close range.

Chegutu Pirates coach Day Gutu was on cloud nine: “I am very happy we managed to pick points away from home.

“We can go back and prepare for the next match on a good note. It was an all out attack and it paid off. I hope we can keep this trajectory going into the next match,” he said.
