A segment of Zimbabweans has criticized the Miss UZ 2024 pageant judges for selecting Chengeto Kanyai as the winner.
Last Friday, Chengeto Kanyai was crowned Miss UZ 2024, triumphing over 14 other finalists. Along with the prestigious title, Kanyai received a full scholarship, an iPhone 15, a laptop, and a one-week trip to Dubai.
The competition started with 25 contestants chosen from two auditions. Coaches then selected the cream of the crop, narrowing it down to 15 finalists. Unfortunately, one of the finalists, Mufaro Chikazunga, had to withdraw from the competition due to “personal reasons,” leaving 14 contestants to compete for the title.

Public Outcry and Criticism
Despite her victory, some Zimbabweans believe Chengeto Kanyai did not deserve the Miss UZ 2024 title. One of the most vocal critics was outspoken self-proclaimed anti-feminist Tawona Shadaya, who questioned the criteria used to crown Kanyai. Some social media users humorously suggested that the judges used the same criteria Shadaya used to choose his girlfriend. Here are some reactions from social media platforms:
@Temez3:
Iiiih was she the only contestant
@mazvimbakupwa

@MusaEdmore64618:

Which criteria do they use to choose the best cz there is nothing lakka about that chick?
minister_of_whitelinen:
Pageantry is not just about outward appearance. It’s also about inner beauty, with criteria covering judging of personality, intelligence, talent and character. Be advised 🙏🏽
