Zimbabwe High School Moot Court Team Makes History, Crowned World Champions
Zimbabwe’s national high school moot team has made history and raised the country’s flag high after being crowned champions of the world at the International Moot Court competitions.
The team, consisting of 9 girls and 2 boys, selected from different schools across the country, defeated 15 other teams to be crowned world champions.
This was Zimbabwe’s first time participating in the prestigious competition. Despite this, the team overcame all odds to be crowned world champions.
Zimbabwe was the only African country at the international competition. It was also the only team which was comprised of exclusively black students.
The excellent news of the Zimbabwe team’s victory at the High School Moot International Competition 2022 was shared by one of their coaches, Nqobile Dube.
Dube, who is the Zim Moot Team head coach and a lawyer by profession, posted,
“In case you missed it. Yesterday, the Zimbabwe National High School Moot Court team was crowned the champions of the world after participating in the International Moot Court. As their coach, I’m so proud.
“This was the first time that Zimbabwe competed in this prestigious competition. There were 16 countries, and Zimbabwe was the only African country. We were also the only team with only black students in the competition. On Africa Day, we made Africa proud.
“Moot Court is a simulation of actual court proceedings. Students are given a fictitious case, and they argue it as Prosecution or Defense. This particular case was centred on international humanitarian law. The focus was on war crimes.”
