Former Finance Minister Ignatius Chombo was arrested today in the morning by the Special Anti Corruption Unit (SACU).
The development was confirmed by a local publication Zimmorningpost on their official Twitter handle;
According to the publication, Chombo was arrested and charged with one count of fraud and five counts of criminal abuse of duty as a public officer.
His arrest is believed to be in connection with the Uchena Land Commission report- a land commission led by Justice Tendai Uchena, that was established to investigate the various dealings involving urban land and land barons.
His arrest comes just a few weeks after Prosecutor-General Kumbirai Hodzi said the case against former Cabinet Minister Ignatius Chombo and former Environment and Tourism Minister Prisca Mupfumira will be concluded soon.
This is not the first time the Former Local Government Minister Ignatius Chombo has been arrested, in 2017 he was arrested for criminal abuse of office over the way he handled the Garikai/Hlalani Kuhle program in Whitecliff farm in Harare.
In 2019, he was re-arrested again, while reporting at Marlborough Police Station as part of his bail conditions on other corruption charges he was facing. This time, he was charged with corruptly selling government property in Mutare to a former Zanu PF MP.–iharare
