Robbers Pepper Spray Montana Meats Driver, Flee With US$10,000 Cash

A man employed as a driver at Montana Meats was on Thursday last week robbed of US$10,000 near Cement Siding in Bulawayo while on his way to Kwekwe to buy meat for the company.

iHarare established from Bulawayo based online publication CITE.org that the 38-year-old driver who has not been named was left for dead on the side of the road by suspected robbers who were driving a silver Honda Fit.

According to Bulawayo acting police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele, on the 18th of February at around 3 pm, the complainant was driving a white UD container truck belonging to Montana meats going to Kwekwe when he was intercepted by the silver Honda Fit.

After crossing Umguza river driving towards Kwekwe just before Cement side, a silver unregistered Honda fit blocked the complainant`s vehicle.

The complainant reduced the speed and disembarked from the truck in a bid to ask the accused persons why they were blocking his way.

One of the accused persons disembarked from the Honda fit and sprayed on the complainant`s face with a pepper spray and he became unconscious, added Assistant Inspector Msebele.

The ZRP Cement siding base received an anonymous report 30 minutes after the incided informing them that a person was lying unconscious along the road.

ZRP Cement side base attended the scene and it was observed that the complainant was lying on the ground by the side of the road and was crying for help.

Complainant was unable to open his eyes and could not talk properly. An empty pepper spray was recovered at the scene but the accused persons were not located, said assistant Inspector Msebele.

Assistant Inspector Msebele said a company representative was called to the scene and confirmed that the unidentified suspects had stolen US$10,000 cash from their driver.

The company manager was contacted and he attended the scene, he was handed over the truck. The Manager was interviewed and he stated that the driver was given US$10 000 for payment and collection of meat from Kwekwe. The total value of the stolen property is US$10 000-00 and nothing was recovered, she said-iharare
