Former SuperSport United star Kuda Mahachi is facing attempted murder and neglect of child charges.

The trial of the embattled footballer kicked off on Thursday before Bulawayo regional magistrate Mr Mark Dzira who remanded Kuda Mahachi out of custody to September 6 for the continuation of trial.

Interestingly, Mahachi’s sister Meline who appeared as a complainant in an earlier case against him, is set to take the witness stand to testify against her brother.

The State alleges that from February 25 2022 to April 14 Kuda Mahachi intentionally attempted to murder his son by hitting him with an iron bar on the head and scalding him with hot water all over the body.

The State alleges that Kuda Mahachi requested for his son to move to South Africa for better living conditions and education.

On 25 February 2022, Diego Christian Mahachi left Zimbabwe for South Africa in the company of his aunt Meline Mahachi. His aunt returned to Zimbabwe on 27 February 2022.

Kuda Mahachi allegedly hit his son with an iron bar on the head and mouth before pouring hot water on his son’s body. Mahachi allegedly went on to assault his son with a charger cable all over the body. As a result of the assault, Kuda Mahachi’s son sustained burns and injuries all over his body.

After this series of callous assaults, Kuda Mahachi allegedly failed to take his son to the hospital for medical attention. He instead returned him to Zimbabwe through an illegal cross-border smuggler.

As a result of the lack of medical care, Diego’s foot was later amputated.

In July, Kuda Mahachi breathed a sigh of relief after he was found not guilty of theft. Kuda Mahachi allegedly snatched and damaged an iPhone XP belonging to his sister, Meline.

He allegedly snatched the phone as part of an effort to destroy evidence in a case in which he stands accused of scalding his four-year-old son with boiling water.-iharare
