The Zimbabwe Public Service Commission (PSC) issued a stern warning Monday against civil servants contemplating participating in activist Blessed Geza’s two-day work stayaway scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday.
The PSC declared that any unauthorised absence during the protest would be treated as “neglect of duty and defiance of authority.” This comes in response to Geza’s YouTube address urging nationwide civil disobedience to pressure President Emmerson Mnangagwa to resign.
“The Commission has observed with alarm various communications circulating that attempt to persuade public workers and citizens to abandon their duties on April 22-23, 2025,” the PSC statement read. “We trust our dedicated, principled workforce understands their obligations and won’t be swayed by such destructive calls.”
Geza’s Escalating Stayaway Campaign
The former ZANU-PF official has intensified his demands, now calling for an indefinite shutdown until Mnangagwa steps down. Geza alleges the 82-year-old leader suffers from cognitive impairment and has orchestrated constitutional violations to secure an unlawful third term while enabling corruption.

His previous March 31 protest call generated a limited response, but Geza insists this week’s action represents the “decisive effort” to remove Zimbabwe’s leadership.

Government warns Civil Servants Participating In Planned Stayaway
The PSC emphasised that civil servants’ primary responsibility remains uninterrupted service delivery to citizens.
“Essential government functions form the backbone of national development under Vision 2030,” the statement continued. “Disruptive protests constitute unpatriotic acts that damage economic recovery and national unity.”
The Commission explicitly stated that April 22-23 are regular workdays, requiring full attendance from all employees except those with approved leave. Department heads received instructions to maintain strict attendance records, and inspectors verified compliance daily.
