Allegations of Vehicle Theft and Fraud
Detective Kedha, a former policeman, appeared in court on Tuesday, accused of stealing a vehicle valued at US$12,000 from South Africa and smuggling it into Zimbabwe.

The State alleges fraudulent registration, with the vehicle assigned a Zimbabwean number plate (AGE 6745) before being sold to Ms Melody Kufakwemba for the aforementioned amount.

On another charge, it is alleged that on July 4 last year, Chidawa received US$8,500 from Kufakwemba for the purchase of a Nissan Caravan. However, he failed to deliver the promised vehicle and later persuaded her to contribute more funds for a Toyota Hilux, which also went undelivered.

Tafadzwa Chidawa car theft charges

This is not the first time Detective Kedha has found himself entangled in legal troubles.

In 2014, along with another police officer, he faced charges of malicious damage to property for smashing the windscreen of a commuter omnibus. The incident led to a court appearance, with both officers being released on $20 bail each.

In 2019, Chidawa faced even more serious allegations. Alongside four fellow police officers, he was accused of robbing a money changer of US$11,000 after allegedly receiving a bribe to release confiscated funds.

The intricate details of the case involve a complex sequence of events, including the confiscation of funds and a subsequent demand for a bribe.

He retired from the police sometime after this incident.

Moreover, in 2023, a police alert was issued for Detective Kedha, accusing him of stealing a vehicle from the ZIMRA car yard at the Chirundu border post.

As the legal saga continues, Mr. Anesu Chirenje appears for the State, striving to build a case against Detective Kedha.

The unfolding events raise questions about the social media sensation’s activities beyond the camera lens and the potential consequences he may face for his alleged involvement in criminal activities.-herald
