I'm Not British, I Am Zimbabwean": Strive Masiyiwa Corrects British Citizenship Reports-iHarare

Econet Wireless founder and Group Chairman, Dr. Strive Masiyiwa has set the record straight on his nationality.

This comes after an international publication claimed that he was Britain’s first black billionaire.

The statement that Masayiwa was Britain’s first black billionaire sparked mixed reactions from Zimbabweans and the rest of Africa as they questioned his nationality.

To put out the fire, Masiyiwa took to social media to correct this mishap stating that he was listed as the “First Black Billionaire to live in Britain” not that he is a British citizen.

“Thank you, Joseph. Just one correction; I’m not British, I’m Zimbabwean. The article simply said the first black billionaire to live in Britain.

There are many billionaires on the list who are residents of the UK, but not British citizens.

To suggest that I’m British simply because on the list of a UK newspaper is the same as I’m an American since I have long appeared on the list of Forbes Magazine,” wrote Masiyiwa responding to one of his Facebook followers who had congratulated him for being named first British black billionaire

The Zimbabwean telecoms mogul recently scooped another accolade after he was named amongst the World’s 50 Greatest Leaders by Fortune Magazine.

The complete list by the prestigious magazine ranked Masiyiwa at number 48, on a list that also includes International tennis sensation Naomi Osaka, country music legend Dolly Parton and the Prime Minister of New Zealand Jacinda Ardern who occupies the first position.-iharare.com
