The upcoming season of MasterChef Australia will feature two talented chefs from Zimbabwe, marking a first for the popular cooking reality show.

Ralph Kahango and Rutendo “Rue” Mupedzi, both based in Western Australia, made it to the final list of 18 contestants after impressing judges during the auditions.

The duo has set their sights on reaching the finals of the show’s 15th season, titled “Secrets & Surprises,” and competing for the coveted title of MasterChef Australia 2023, as well as a cash prize of AUD 250,000.

Rutendo Mupedzi, who recently launched a successful macaroon business, took a break from her career as an oral health therapist to pursue her passion for cooking.

As per her profile on the MasterChef Australia website, she migrated to Australia when she was 15 with her parents, older sister and younger brother.

Kahango, an experienced senior financial auditor based in Perth, will be joining her. His passion for cooking has been influenced by his family.

Ralph, who grew up in Zimbabwe and South Africa, moved to Australia at the age of 17 and went on to pursue a Masters of Accounting.

According to his profile on the MasterChef Australia website, Ralph Kahango has a fondness for Italian cuisine, but he is excited to showcase Zimbabwean cuisine and traditions during his appearance on the show. He hopes to share the joys of cooking with a wider audience by hosting his own cooking show in the future.

“While he loves Italian food, Ralph is also looking forward to sharing Zimbabwean cuisine, culture and traditions with the judges, as well as the rest of Australia. With food now his key focus, Ralph hopes to one day host a cooking show where he can share with an audience the true joys of cooking,” part of his profile reads.-iharare
