Meghan Markle namedropped her son Archie’s nanny for the first time in the pilot episode of her Spotify podcast Archetypes.

The Duchess of Sussex who is often secretive, gushed over the heroic nanny saying she saved Archie from a fire in his bedroom on the Sussexes’ royal tour to South Africa in autumn 2019.

In her conversation with tennis star Serena Williams, Meghan Markle recalled that in 2019, after arriving in South Africa, they left Archie who was four and a half months old with the staff, to attend a formal meeting.

Soon after they finished their official engagement they received the distressing news that there had been a fire in Archie’s room.

The nanny named Lauren saved Archie from the fire instinctively. According to Meghan Markle, Lauren is from Zimbabwe and she was supposed to put Archie down for his nap, but before she did that, she went to get a snack downstairs.

Unbeknownst, Lauren saved Archie’s life because she took him with her according to the Duchess of Sussex, “she would always tie him on her back with a mud cloth, and her instinct was like, ‘Let me just bring him with me before I put him down.’”

While Lauren’s last name is unknown, the Zimbabwean has been identified in pictures that have gone viral online.

When she mentioned Lauren, Meghan Markle dismissed rumours that they have a high turnover of different nannies.

She described Lauren as amazing and said she stayed on until the Sussexes moved to Canada. This was shortly before the Duchess and Prince Harry moved to the US after stepping back from their roles in the royal family.

Lauren was briefly spotted with the Sussexes at Cape Town airport, back in 2019. This was the royal tour during which she saved baby Archie.

She was seen visiting Sir Elton John’s home in the South of France with the Duchess and Prince Harry a month prior. Although Lauren did not live at Frogmore Cottage, the trusted helper accompanied the family on royal excursions.

Judging by how long Lauren stayed with them, clearly, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex prefer to keep a nanny who fits for as long as possible.-iharare
