Deadly High-Speed Tragedy: Mutare Teenager Drives Off with Bus Driver Clinging for Life in Fatal Cellphone Robbery

A Mutare teenager’s audacious plan to acquire a new cellphone through illicit means resulted in a tragic loss of life. The 17-year-old teenager, whose identity remains protected, stands accused of orchestrating a daring robbery that ultimately claimed the life of a bus driver.

The Deceptive Scheme: Details of the Cellphone Scam Uncovered
The 17-year-old teenager has been arrested for the murder of an Inter Africa bus driver, Lembo Kembo, who had been sent to deliver a brand new cellphone to her. The tragic turn of events occurred when the bus driver clung onto the vehicle, demanding payment, as the teenager sped away at high speed.

According to Manica Post, the teenager who resides in the NHB Section of Sakubva and her accomplice 32-year-old Linnet Kashiri of Area C, Dangamvura conspired to rob a Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra from a phone seller.

The duo went on to order the cellphone online and were instructed to send the payment through Mukuru money transfer agency. However, they allegedly refused to comply.

As part of her plan to deceive the seller, the teenager convinced them to entrust the cellphone to a bus driver for delivery to Mutare and promised to give the bus driver the money upon receipt.

As such, Kembo was tasked with delivering the cellphone from Harare to Mutare and was supposed to receive payment upon delivery.

The Fateful Encounter: Bus Driver Clings to Vehicle as Teenager Flees
On the fateful day, Kembo arrived at Sakubva Swimming Pool Bus Stop at around 6:30 pm and contacted the accused persons to collect the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra cellphone.

The accused individuals arrived at the bus stop in a Toyota Mark X with registration number AFA5675, with the teenager behind the wheel.

The accused individuals reportedly parked their vehicle a short distance from the bus and approached Kembo to collect the cellphone. The teenager was handed the device by the now deceased driver. They instructed him to follow them to their car to receive the $1,200 payment.

Kembo swiftly moved to the back passenger seat, positioning himself halfway inside the vehicle in order to collect the payment. With determination, he leaned in, his body partially inside the car. However, before he could secure the money, the teenager accelerated the vehicle at a high speed, abruptly driving away with him clinging onto the car for dear life.

Tragically, Kembo was dragged for approximately 50 meters before falling off onto the road.

Unfortunately, he later succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital.

Realizing the gravity of their actions, the pair abandoned the vehicle at the teenager’s residence and fled to Harare.

Arrest and Remand: Accused Individuals Face Legal Consequences in Mutare Court
Following investigations, both suspects were arrested, and the stolen Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra was recovered.

The two suspects have since appeared before Mutare provincial magistrate, Tendai Mahwe. Kashiri was remanded in custody until March 25, while the teenager was released into the custody of her mother.-iharare
